Decision making gets all the credit for being the best
place to “go”. But in fact, sometimes, staying in the question can be quite tantalizing. See when we do decide…we close down the possibilities for more information. In a recent board meeting I was running, we spent 4 hours discussing the same subject. It was quite exhausting, yes, but the group was intent on keeping the dialogue going so we could flesh out all the points of view. After the discussion, we made a different decision than I thought we were going to make. It was quite refreshing! I tried to “close” the conversation several times by making a decision, but once I let go of the need to decide, a lot more information came in. Consider this the next time you need to make a decision. Hang in the question for a day or two if you can. See what else reveals itself.
